The palace of Széchenyi is located in the middle of a beautiful park in Nagycenk (12km away from Sopron). The palace had been constructed between 1741 and 1750 at the request of Széchenyi Antal and his wife. In 1783 Antal’s nephew Ferenc moved to the palace and after his death his younger son became the new inhabitant.

Since 1973 the exhibition of the Memorial Museum of István Széchenyi can be seen among these old walls. THe renovation of the east wing started in 1976. In the village’s cemetery the grave of the ’Greatest Hungarian’ István Széchenyi can be visited in the mausoleum of the Széchenyi family which is a pilgrimage destination of Hungary.
