Trends in Electronics and Informatics
The IT Evolution permanent exhibition houses almost 2000 artifacts that capture the most important stages in the IT revolution, with a particular focus on Hungarian-related innovations. The collection is grouped around four major themes:
- The world of calculations and instruments used in calculations - from the compass and abacus to pocket computers.
- The development of machine-readable information storage devices - from punch cards to solid state storage devices.
- The evolution of electronics - from the age of vacuum tubes to single-board computers.
- The merging of computer technology and telecommunication – from the telegraph to smart phones.
Óbuda University’s John von Neumann Faculty of Informatics is host to the permanent IT Evolution exhibition, which displays key milestones in the evolution of IT and features unique artifacts and demonstrations of IT history that cannot be seen elsewhere. This exhibition can be viewed at any time from 4 to 11 p.m. on the Night of Museums. In addition, at 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m., special hands-on demonstrations will be held by Dr. Sándor Jeszenszky, former director of the Electrotechnical Museum, and Dr. László Kutor, Óbuda University Adjunct Professor, who established the exhibition and its extensive collection of artifacts.
