The Symbolic Significance of Unicorns in the Indus Valley Civilisation | Lecture on the Indus 100 exhibition by Dr. Rita Jeney
Different location: ANNOUNCEMENT! CHANGE OF LOCATION!!! All Night of Museums Events of the Hopp Museum will be held at the Vasarely Museum (1033 Budapest, Szentlélek tér 6.)
Curatorial presentation on the Indus 100 exhibition and the mysterious Indus Valley Civilization by archeologist and indologist Dr. Rita Jeney (Bhaktivedanta College)
The lecture focuses on the most fascinating type of artefact from the Indus Valley Civilisation, stone seals. Seals not only bear the characters of the still undeciphered script of the Indus Valley, but also preserve many depictions of animals. The most commonly portrayed animal figure on these artefacts is the unicorn. Where did this popular legendary creature come from and how can it be interpreted? The unicorn seals have played an important role in the history of Indus Civilisation research, and the lecture is connected to the Indus 100 poster exhibition in the Hopp Garden that celebrates the 100th anniversary of the international discovery of the Indus Civilisation.
