Sonatas of Colours – A Temporary Exhibition of the Works of László Kontraszty

Temporary exhibition
exhibition

László Kontraszty (1906–1994) was one of those 20th-century painters whose name and creative world remain relatively unknown. This temporary exhibition at the Bible Museum aims to draw attention to his remarkable artistic journey. Classical music accompanied László Kontraszty throughout his life; he described his paintings as "optical symphonies". In his works, shapes, colours, tones, and rhythmic motifs create a sense of movement and dynamic flow, much like a musical composition. A defining feature of his art is the interplay of contrasts—the visual expression of tension and, ultimately, its resolution. The exhibition presents nearly one hundred pieces from the final period of the artist’s career, displayed across two floors. Photographs by Tamás Füle and Miklós Kaunitz
