What does spiritualism and psychology have in common? Who researched spiritualist phenomena and how? How have esoteric practices influenced the development of our modern ideas on therapy? Few people know that spiritualism, the occult and many other esoteric practices have attracted the attention of leading psychologists. Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung, Sándor Ferenczi and many others began to experiment with spiritualist mediums, making observations and trying to find psychological explanations for unusual phenomena. These explorations contributed to psychology in a variety of ways and laid the foundations for the later development of parapsychology.
