Lecture on the Gandhāra-exhibition by curator Dr. Anna Aklan
Different location: ANNOUNCEMENT! CHANGE OF LOCATION!!! All Night of Museums Events of the Hopp Museum will be held at the Vasarely Museum (1033 Budapest, Szentlélek tér 6.)
Graceful statues of the Buddha radiating an air of tranquility, multitudes of skyscraping stupas, lean and richly decorated, vibrant crowds of pilgrims, the scent of incense, the deep reverberance of chants – what could the atmosphere of ancient Gandhāra be like?
How did the depiction of the Buddha emerge? What stories do the stones tell?
What did Buddhist worship look like in a stupa-complex of Gandhāra?
The curator of the exhibiton answers all these questions in her lecture.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 26 June, at the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts.
