Tatai Malomkert
Malomkert is one of Tata’s most unique locations, where the town’s rich history of watermills comes to life.
At the heart of the area stands the renovated Jenő Mill, which features an interactive exhibition and live milling demonstrations, offering a glimpse into the traditional craft of milling.
In the outdoor Experience Park, visitors can explore miniature mill structures that they can operate themselves. Through water-themed model tables, children can playfully learn about the mechanics of watermills and the power of water.
Malomkert is an ideal destination for family outings, school trips, and educational museum programs, where participants can get hands-on experience with the process of breadmaking — from sowing to grinding and kneading.
By preserving the values of the past and using modern experiential education methods, Malomkert offers meaningful recreation for all ages.
Secrets of the Millstones – Night of Museums at Malomkert
As evening falls and the town quiets down, Malomkert comes to life. On the Night of Museums, the gates open to all who are curious to discover how bread makes its way to our tables — not just in theory, but through real, tangible experiences.
From 6:00 p.m., visitors are invited into a special discovery space at Malomkert: “The Tale of the Millstones” introduces the full journey of bread — from the sowing of grain to the final kneading of dough.
Historical tools, various types of grain, and hand-operated mills help bring this long-forgotten world to life. Visitors can explore the traditional steps of breadmaking, handle authentic old tools, and even try grinding grain by hand.
The program is open and continuous, allowing everyone to join at their own pace and explore the story of bread in an immersive, hands-on way.
Inside the Jenő Mill, an interactive exhibition reveals what the world of millers once looked like — how they worked, lived, and mastered the forces of nature.
Meanwhile, families and children are welcome all evening in the outdoor Experience Park, where miniature mill structures and water model tables offer playful learning opportunities. These installations are fully interactive — visitors can operate them themselves and experience how water powered the mills of old, discovering firsthand what made this world so special.
This night is not just about history — it's about lived experience.
A night where children ask questions, adults reminisce, and the stones begin to tell their stories.
