Our Museum was founded in 1897 under the direction of the archeologist and museologist Gábor Csallány. It has borne the name of József Koszta, the prominent painter of national and international appreciation since 1950. Nowadays, the institution, as the most impressive public building of the town, the once county hall (Kossuth tér 1.) and its three exhibition buildings serve as the locale for passing down and cherishing traditions, as well as of scientific investigation and stirring museum experience. Our museum events (linked mostly to our exhibitions and collections) stimulate museum education, not only for school groups but also for families.
