performance

Different location: Panoramic Terrace of the Money Museum

The world's largest hyperinflation began in Hungary in the July of 1945 and lasted for 13 months. One year later, the forint, the currency still in use today, was introduced. This presentation will look at the preparations that took place for the new currency to replace the pengő. We will learn about the earlier forints throughout Hungarian monetary history, the hyperinflationary period after the Second World War, and the role of German tanks in the introduction of the forint.
